Christian Arts Camp. Day 5

CAC2016Logo3-29-16

What a wonderful week we had at Christian Arts Camp! Here’s the Friday wrap-up.

CAC2016SocialMediaFridayPost

What a delight to share what we’ve learned this week at our closing program! We heard hand chimes ringing beautiful hymns, choir singing of God’s great love, and rhythm and movement sharing their creative take on a marching band classic. Drama students shared skits that reminded us of our Bible stories and the dance classes expressed the joy and freedom found in Jesus! There was no shortage of excellent visual art pieces, as family and friends admired the creativity of all of the young artists at Christian Arts Camp!

Thank you for another great year of praising God and sharing his love through the arts!

Here’s what we did Thursday at Christian Arts Camp!

Don’t forget – the closing program begins at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow (June 17)!

CAC2016SocialMediaThursdayPost

{Rhythm & Movement} We’ve been working on a variety of core themes such as tempos, dynamics, keeping beats, creating rhythm, and more. Students have also learned and seen how one can practice rhythm and movement without an “instrument” by looking at examples of body percussion, street percussion, and more. All the while, we’ve been learning how rhythms fit together and how movement can be incorporated into that!

{Handchimes} We have been learning how we can use instrumental music to praise God and share his love with others. We have learned songs that can be played to during different events in people’s lives to show Gods power.

{Sculpture} In sculpture this week we’ve used various media, including plaster gauze, wire frames, thread spools, bread clay, natural clay and clothes pins, to create several pieces.

{Pre-K/Kinder} Today we tried our hand at print making, making our own designs and impressions on styrofoam and using ink rollers to transfer the image. We also used parts of egg cartons to create chimes!

What Did We Do Today? A Word from Some of Our Teachers …

{Drama} Now that we’ve learned a few acting exercises and read through the scripts, we found out our roles today and began practicing for our performance during Friday’s closing program!

{Choir} We’ve learned some fun ways to warm up our voices, are practicing our song for the closing program and are playing a singing game!

{Dance} After learning a few basic steps, we’re close to knowing all of the choreography for our dance at the closing program! Through short videos, we’ve also been able to see how the artists at Angel Feet Ministries use dance to share Jesus’ love with others.

{Pre-K/Kinder} We created water color resist paintings and landscape drawings with a mirror image reflection! We’ve also been having fun learning our dance for Friday’s program.

What Did We Do Today? A Word from Some of Our Teachers …

{Nature Arts} We made high contrast prints using leaves, gelatin and ink.

{Fiber Arts} We learned about natural dyes and used our own dye to color lengths of white yarn, which will be used in a project later this week!

{Drawing} We begin each class with an exercise to get our creativity flowing and today it helped us to focus on details in a new way (we put paper plates on our head to draw on!). Students also tried their hand at contour line drawing.

{Pre-K/Kinder} We created cityscapes using paper shapes, had fun “ice skating” with wax paper and made abstract line art.

What Did We Do Today? A Word from Some of Our Teachers …

{Painting} We made our own paintbrushes out of feathers, sticks and electrical tape and put our new found color theory knowledge to work, as we mixed our own paints!

{Paper Pizzaz} Using shaving cream and liquid water colors, we made marble paper. We also began the process of recycling paper to make our own, new paper!

{Exploring Instruments} Percussion was the name of the game today, as we learned about and were able to try out drums from different parts of the world.

{Pre-K/Kinder} We worked collaboratively to paint a creation mural and had fun “swipe painting” using recycle gift card and a variety of texturing instruments.

What Did We Do Today? A Word from Some of Our Teachers …

{Painting} We built on color-mixing knowledge and created beautiful “cardboard canvases” yesterday. Today, we used painter’s tape to make tree designs on our work from yesterday before covering them with another coat of paint. We’re looking forward to seeing the results when the tape is removed!

{Drawing} We worked on our tree banner for the sanctuary and started a cubism face project, inspired by our artist of the day Pablo Picasso.

{Nature Arts} We used leaves to create all sorts of animals – including a cute koala climbing a eucalyptus tree.

{Sculpture} We painted the final details on our paper mache turtles and painted our clay projects.

{Pre-K/Kinder} We did a sticky nature project, in which we created shapes and pictures using items found in nature. We also created “quilted” banners by gluing fabric squares on felt bases.

Check out what we learned on Wednesday at Christian Arts Camp!

CACDailyPost3Wednesday

What Did We Do Today? A Word from Some of Our Teachers …

{Dance} We reviewed our lyrical dance that we learned yesterday and began working on a new hip-hop dance that we will finish tomorrow.

{Fiber Arts} We began this week learning about three basic methods of creating fabric from fibers: weaving, knitting/crocheting and felting. We made banners using burlap for the base and each student created their own design using felt, ribbons, pipe cleaners, pompoms, cording, beads and bells.  We also looked at how to pull some of the burlap fibers from the sides to create visual interest just by using blank space.

{Hand Chimes} We have been working on ringing techniques and practicing our songs for the closing program!

{Pre-K/Kinder} We used mixed media to create decorative sticks and used finger paint and painter’s tape to create cross art.

{Paper Pizzaz} We made 3D flowers out of hearts. Yesterday we made trees out of recycled toilet paper rolls.

{Exploring Instruments} We learned about the brass musical family and got to try five different brass instruments – flugelhorn, trumpet, trombone, coronet + baritone!

{Drama} We got our scripts today and are working on the skits for Friday’s closing program!

{Pre-K/Kinder} We did collaborative circle painting projects. We also drew hearts and decorated them – keep an eye out for our finished banner project on Friday!
